Silly kitties!
Mar. 13th, 2010 06:14 pmSo the boy toy and I decided that it was time to cut the kitties' toenails. (He has a big red scratch on his forehead, probably from Pumpkin trying to share the pillow with him.)
Pumpkin doesn't like to be picked up and held, but once you grab him and hold him with his hind legs free, he's OK with having his hind claws clipped. So the boy toy stood in front of me, holding Pumpy, while I did the trimming honors.
Then we waited a few minutes until Julia was curled up in her bed, and the boy toy snagged her. Even though she likes to cuddle, she does NOT like having her claws clipped. And it takes me a little longer to do each paw on her, because she has all that fluffy Maine Coon fur growing between her toes. So she meowed piteously while I probed for her claws and put them through the special pet nail trimmer. She also did not want me to do the little dew claws on the sides of her front leg (at least it seems like a new claw and not Hemingway/New England polydactyly, though I could be wrong). Poor, poor Julia!
Finally Julia was freed and the boy toy gave both kitties (who went off at opposite ends of the condo) a sprinkle of catnip. Julia rolled around on the rug and rubbed her face on the catnip until she got happily buzzed and then curled back up in her bed to go back to sleep.
