I've created two monsters.
Jul. 11th, 2011 03:50 pmThese monsters look like ordinary house kitties. But when I bring in the pot of "sprouty sprouts" from the great outdoors, they perk up their faces with all the enthusiasm of the "turf majors" at UMass-Amherst.
Though they don't care much for each other, Pumpkin and Julia will sit on opposite sides of the pot and go chomp-chomp-chomp on the blades of oat grass. Pumpkin, in particular, acts like a feline weed-whacker. He won't stop until most of the crop has been mowed.
On Saturday I took the pot back outside to give the few remaining plants a rest and to plant some new seeds. The cats acted frantically disappointed. Julia meowed up a storm and tried to follow me out the door. For hours afterward, their body language showed that they were mourning the loss of their greenery.
Will somebody please remind these cats that they are supposed to be obligate carnivores??!?
