My 100th SCA Event
Sep. 5th, 2011 10:36 pmI had a grand time at the Atlantian 30-Year Celebration, which, in a felicitous coincidence of round numbers, turned out to be my 100th SCA event. Fancy that!
Despite the late start (and the frenzied packing), I had no real problems with getting down to central Virginia (yes, Virginia has an Orange County too). I avoided I-95 completely by taking the Beltway to I-66 to U.S. 29. I kept hearing on WTOP that there were accidents on I-95 in Prince William County -- not gigantic ones, but enough to be a drag on the average speed limit. I don't particularly like driving on I-66 either, but at least I was moving. Quite smoothly, indeed, thanks to that transmission job. :-)
Lady Magellan the GPS did take me on a slightly different route from the printed directions, but somehow I found myself in beautiful downtown Orange, where I stopped at the 7-Eleven and bought some doughnuts and a couple of bottled Frappaccinos for morning wake-ups. The site was about four miles farther south. A van with a trailer pulled into troll in front of me, and I thought the trailer looked familiar; it turned out to be Deirdre and her family.
To be continued....
