1) What is the oldest thing you own?

Good question. I have a couple of books printed in the 1890s, my grandfather's diploma from 1907, my grandmother's pre-1912 pocket watch. I suppose a tiny chip of meteorite that a couple of astronomer friends once gave me is truly the oldest thing I own.

2) What is the oldest home you've lived in?

Definitely not my childhood home -- my parents built that between their wedding and my birth. In my 20s I moved an *average* of once per year. At one point I rented a sad little one-room apartment that was an extension onto the back of a 200-year-old farmhouse. I have no idea when the addition was built, but it was in bad shape. A couple of apartments I shared in Massachusetts probably dated to the early 1900s. One of my college dorms was built in 1923 and was one of the first Sheraton hotels.

3) What is the oldest book you've read?

Maybe Plato's Republic? In terms of authorship, that is. I own a couple of small books that were printed in the 1890s.

4) What is the oldest electronic device that you still use?

Hmm ... the boy toy has done a pretty good job of purging old technology around here. Excluding purely "electrical" things like lamps and the refrigerator, my oldest working electronic gizmo is probably the Sony clock radio, which I purchased in 1994.

5) What is the oldest work of art/architecture that you've seen?

Stuff at the British Museum like the Rosetta Stone and the Egyptian mummies. Also a King Tut exhibit that once visited the Museum of Science in Boston while on tour.
