First off, signal boost for a special-needs puppy who needs a home.

Now that you are all done squeeing....

Yesterday I woke up early, in part thanks to a dream in which I brought my bicycle to REI for new tires and was charged $1200. Yeah, right. But the scientist with whom I was doing an e-mail interview answered my questions while I was asleep, so I was able to get my short freelance article done, and thus earn a small number of greenbacks.

Yesterday evening was "old garb night" at the Baronial At-Home. I brought three bags of Mistress Moira's old SCA clothing, and Kender brought six bags of Mistress Caitlin's togs. (Mistress Moira is in a nursing home, and Mistress Caitlin died of breast cancer four years ago.) I held stuff up for people to look at, and they told me what stack to put it in. A couple of newcomers scored some of the good-looking stuff, we have one bag of garb set aside for the "loaner gear" closet, and there's a huge pile o'clothing for the next Storvik silent auction. The leftover stuff -- things that were torn, stained, or too modern for the SCA -- went into another bag, which I stuffed into a Planet Aid box on the way home. Plus, I have one clean but ratty old blanket that's going to the box for animal shelter donations. (One of Baroness Sorcha's cats already blessed it with her scent.)

I took home a Viking apron dress -- FINALLY I have a Viking apron dress! -- with the underdress to go with it, as well as a veil, circlet, and a couple of "hippie" things to wear to a sci-fi con or on Halloween.

Those of us who took clothing for ourselves made a donation to the barony. And it's certainly nice to get more clutter out of my condo. (Believe me, the volume of the stuff I took to the Baroness's house greatly exceeded the volume of the stuff I brought home.)

Do you have a pair of brooches to go with your new apron dress?

Well, when you do get the chance (here in Gleann Abhann, we sometimes have auctions for the Royal Discretionary Fund or the Libation Fund at the Gleann Abhann Social at Gulf Wars so you might find something at an auction your kingdom does?), snag it!

Raymond's Quiet Press has several nice ones for fairly inexpensively.
Northstar Armoury also has some brooches as well but theirs are quite expensive. Very sturdy, though, our Seneschal has a pair that has survived being Minister of Children.
